Postdoctoral Fellows
The Nguyen Lab (nguyenlab.wse.jhu.edu) invites applications for a postdoctoral position in computational biomechanics with applications to ocular biomechanics. The postdoctoral scholar will be involved in an R01 funded project to study the relationship between the structure and mechanical properties of the optic nerve head tissues and remodeling with glaucoma. The project is highly interdisciplinary and involves long-standing collaborations between the Nguyen Lab and world-renowned glaucoma clinician-scientists at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and collaborators at Ecole des Mines in Saint-Etienne, France. While the project is computational, the postdoctoral scholar will work closely with experimentalists and will have opportunities to conduct imaging experiments, using optical coherence tomography and digital volume correlation to calculate the invivo deformation response, and morphological analysis. The postdoctoral scholar will also have opportunities to develop an independent project on a topic of mutual interest in biomechanics and the mechanics of stimuli-responsive polymers and polymer composites. An initial appointment will be for a 12-month period at a salary of $65,000, with future renewals contingent on performance. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
Qualifications:
The candidate is required to have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field. The successful candidate must have experience in finite element analysis, preferably of soft tissues. Experience with the virtual field method, optimization methods, and machine learning are desirable. All candidates should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, a strong publication record, and the ability and motivation to work independently. Researchers are expected to participate in the preparation of manuscripts, grants, and presentations.
To apply:
Please email a complete curriculum vitae, 2 representative publications, and the names and addresses of two references to [email protected]. Please put “postdoctoral position in computational biomechanics” in the subject line of the email. Women and members of groups traditionally underrepresented in engineering are highly encouraged to apply.
Ph.D. Student
We are recruiting for excellent PhD students in the areas of biomechanics, polymer mechanics, and mechanics of liquid crystal elastomers. The application deadline for Ph.D. admissions in the ME Department at JHU is 12/15. Feel free to send your CV to [email protected] if you are interested in applying. Women and underrepresented minority applicants are encouraged to apply.
Masters Student
We are recruiting for excellent Masters students interested in a thesis project in the areas of biomechanics and polymer mechanics. Please send your CV to [email protected] if you are interested.
Please note that in the event that I receive a lot of inquiries, I won’t be able to reply to all emails or confirm that I have received them. I do read all emails and will contact you if I think your research interests match opportunities within my lab. Thank you.
