Latrobe B1

Polymer Mechanics Lab

This newly renovated lab contains the necessary facilities and equipment for polymer synthesis and thermomechanical characterization.  The lab has  a 4ft chemical fume hood, appropriate  storage for chemicals and flammables, a sink, and two rows of impermeable counters.

A full chemical inventory, lab safety and training resources can be found in the All Things Experiments Lab Wiki.   If you are interested in using the equipment, please contact the PI at [email protected].  Hourly fees will be applied to companies.  It is strongly recommended that you read the product specifications for the equipment to determine if it will meet your needs.

Latrobe 216A

Soft Tissues Mechanics Lab

Office Space: Latrobe 216A functions as an office with open seating for 6 students and postdocs. The office space is bright, with 9 large windows that overlook the Latrobe courtyard.   Students who prefer to work in cubicles can also sit in the ME Solids Student Offices in Latrobe 230 and 231.

Biosafety Lab: The Biosafety lab is a separate, fully enclosed room in Latrobe 216A. The lab has independent temperature control, light control, air handling system, a 4ft biosafety cabinet, and a wet lab space with sink, eye wash, and an impermeable specimen preparation surface.

A full chemical inventory, lab safety and training resources can be found in the All Things Experiments Lab Wiki.

Nguyen Lab Wiki

Nguyen Lab: The lab houses a shared workstation system, which  includes a dual quad-core MacPro, with 8 processors, 32GB RAM a 2 TB internal hard drive, and a 16 TB Raid 1 backup data storage system. The workstation is equipped with Tahoe, an open source platform for development of finite element models and method (the PI Nguyen is a principal developer). Also installed on the workstation are Cubit, a mesh generator, Ensight, a powerful visualization program, and a custom optimization program.  The MacPro are mainly used for larger computations and for Masters and undergraduate researchers. PhD students have work mainly on their high-end laptops.

The full list of software tools and installation directions for Tahoe and other custom codes are found on the Computing and Software Lab Wiki.  New lab members are strongly urged to read the wiki.

ARCH is a shared computing facility that contains 19,104 cores located on the Bayview Campus of Johns Hopkins University
